Thursday Island also has a supermarket, hardware store, newsagency, post office, library, primary- school, high-school, TAFE and an off-site James Cook University Campus. There are also twice daily air services to Cairns and the island is only 10 minutes to Horn Island. As the island is only 30klms from the tip of Australia and 10 minutes to Friday Island, you can also take the opportunity to visit the remarkable Pearl Farm, including having an exclusive lunch with the Japanese farmers and viewing a demonstration of pearl seeding and harvesting.
