2008 was a big year for 83 Hannan Place, Ainslie. It was in this year that Steve and Penelope's humble residence was revolutionised, doubling in size out and up and undergoing a transformation into the striking residence we see today. Under the careful guidance of Adhami Pender Architechts and builder Santino of Impact Constructions the brief was to create a home which would have a low carbon footprint, be low maintenance and efficient to run. These solar passive design elements are evident upon entry with large north-facing double glazed windows flooding the living areas with natural light, double brick construction adding thermal mass to the lower floor, a heat pump hot water system and a large 6.6kw solar array powering a LG Power Wall to keep energy costs to a minimum. Centre stage is a wrought-iron and Ash timber stairwell which entices you upstairs to the parent's retreat where the feature porthole window is a real showstopper. The upper floor is devoted to mum and dad with a generous main bedroom plus ensuite and a balcony to unwind at the days end. Downstairs the living areas open onto a covered alfresco and timber deck area both of which overlook the private gardens. The gardens are also lower maintenance in design with edible delights including apricots, lemon, pomegranate, mandarin, fig and orange.
