The village is located on the New England Highway approx 22kms south of Glen Innes. Originally, Glencoe was the name given to an area of 1748 acres of land selected around 1871 by the Honorable John Wetherspoon. In naming it Glencoe, John was remembering Scotland the country of his birth. The Great Northern Railway came through the village in the early 1800's, a railway station was built at Glencoe and the village proclaimed in 1890 grew up around it. Our church and the railway station were the first public buildings erected in Glencoe.
