Kalang has historical significance with a Southern portion of the property the site of the original Canowindra, “Age of Fishes fossil discovery”. A chance find in 1956 led to the discovery of well-preserved fossilised imprints of thousands of bizarre, long-extinct fishes encased in bony armour, other fishes with lungs and huge predators with crocodile- like jaws: many of the fish discovered at the site were new to science.

Many of the fossils are today housed at the “Age of Fishes” museum in Canowindra. Along with the balloon festival the museum is a major tourist attraction for the town.
Accommodation on Kalang features a charming three-bedroom, two-bathroom, cottage which is nestled into the hillside.

Additional infrastructure includes a three-bay shed; two bays enclosed on three sides with one bay lockable with roller door access. Other buildings may be converted for use such as stables.
